The answer begins with a little history. This site started off as a single page generated by a Microsoft 'WebBot' that (barely) functioned
as a threaded message forum. In less than a week it blew up (couldn't handle the load), and I was forced to start exploring other
options.
While the forum itself has been hosted by 3rd parties
(running Linux)
for the majority of the site's life, the 'home' and support pages have been hosted and built on Windows NT's Active Server
Pages (ASP) technology, being edited by a Microsoft editor (the software, not the person;) all running on Microsoft operating systems.
On 8/19/01, I moved the site to a Linux server and converted most of the ASP stuff to PHP.
The only functionality lost was the random quote on the 'home' page, which wasn't Fry's related, and I didn't feel like porting it anyway.
So what I mean by "100% Microsoft Free" is that the site exists here in cyberspace, waiting patiently for you to visit and serving you quickly when you do, and it does
it all without any help from 'Bill'. :)
